About Your NoVA Neighbor

Hi, I’m Louis, Your NoVA Neighbor.

I was born and raised in Fairfax County and now live in Loudoun County. Northern Virginia has been home to me for nearly my entire life. I’m even a graduate of George Mason University right here in NoVA.

And yet, like many people here, I often feel like something is missing.

NoVA is full of hardworking, driven people. But because of the transient nature of the area, it can be hard to find a true sense of community. Neighbors move in and out. People are busy. Many of us don’t have a doorbell to ring when we need a quick helping hand.

I started this because I saw how many people, especially seniors and those recovering from injuries, struggle with everyday tasks that they cannot easily do on their own. There isn’t always a friend or family member nearby to help. Sometimes it is something small like opening a stubborn jar or changing a lightbulb. Sometimes it is a growing to-do list that feels overwhelming.

That is where I step in.

My background is in tech. I worked as a software engineer, where my biggest strength was problem solving. I am used to breaking down unfamiliar problems, figuring out practical solutions, and getting things done efficiently. That same mindset now shows up in people’s homes.

I have also completed major renovation projects of my own, so I am comfortable using tools and handling physically demanding work. I am strong, capable, and willing to complete the hands-on tasks that you may not be able to do yourself.

I am not a licensed specialist, and I do not claim to be an expert in any one trade. If you are looking for a master electrician, plumber, or contractor, I am not your guy.

But if you are looking for a competent, careful, trustworthy neighbor who can take care of straightforward tasks and figure things out when needed, I would love to help.

I have already had the privilege of helping many neighbors in our community, and I would be honored to help you too.

There is nothing to gain by overselling myself. If I am not the right fit for your task, I will tell you. And if you decide not to pay anything after the work is done, that is completely okay.

This is about helping people first.

Whatever your circumstances, my promise is simple. I will treat you like family, with dignity and respect. That promise doesn’t change based on what you choose to contribute.

Why "Pay What You Want"?

Northern Virginia is full of skilled, reputable businesses, and I respect the work they do.

For me, this model isn’t about competing with anyone else, it’s about creating something that reflects my values and serves my community in a different way.

Finding help, especially for small, quick tasks, can be harder or more expensive than it should be. And asking for help isn’t always easy, especially when pricing feels uncertain.

That’s why Your NoVA Neighbor operates on a Pay What You Want model.

You decide what feels fair. You decide what you can afford.

Some people will pay more.
Some people won’t be able to pay at all.

There’s no pressure. No awkward conversations. No surprises.

I believe that when you treat people well, things tend to work out. My goal is simple: that every neighbor I help feels they received real value. If that happens, I consider it a good day.

If you need help, I’m here.

Want to Support My Mission?

If you believe in what I’m building and want to help it grow, here are a few ways to get involved:
Our "Pay What You Want" model is the heart of our community focus. We believe that everyone deserves help, regardless of their financial situation. By allowing you to determine the value of our service, we ensure that help is accessible to those who need it most while allowing those who can afford more to support their neighbors.

Pay It Forward

Make a contribution to help cover services for neighbors who can’t afford to give. Because Pay What You Want is unpredictable, a contribution of any size helps create stability and ensures I can keep this going long term.

Offer Expertise

I have a wide range of skills, but there are areas where I lack specialized expertise. If you are willing to be someone I can occasionally call when a task falls outside my skillset, I would love to connect.

Share Feedback

Honest feedback and positive reviews help this mission grow.

Lend a Hand

Occasionally I receive requests for two-person jobs. If you are someone who is able to lend a hand to help a neighbor when you have availability, please reach out. I am appreciative of any help I can get, and we can coordinate schedules to make it work.

Own a Service Business?

If you’re open to occasionally assisting with small Pay What You Want requests, I’d love to build a relationship. When larger projects come up that are outside my scope, I am happy to refer them to trusted partners.
